Four Program Goals of Girl Scouting

From , former About.com Guide

Definition:

The Four Program Goals of Girl Scouting describe what girls can expect to learn and achieve through Girl Scouting. Girl Scout activities are based on them to lead girls closer to the goals.

  1. The first program goal is for you to become the very best person you can. You should feel good about yourself and what you have already done, be open to new activities and challenges, and use your talents and skills in new ways.

  2. The second program goal is for you to learn to respect other people, build strong friendships, and to learn to understand and appreciate people who are different from you.

  3. The third program goal is for you to build your own set of values. These values will help you make decisions and guide your actions.

  4. The fourth program goal is designed to help you build leadership skills and to contribute to society by helping other people.

-from the Junior Girl Scout Handbook

Additionally, Junior Girl Scouts have Four 4 Junior Girl Scout Signs they can earn. Each sign is directly related to one of the program goals. See:

These goals have been a part of Girl Scouts of the USA for many years. However, as part of the GSUSA realignment and the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience being introduced between 2008 and 2010, the four program goals will be phased out and replaced with the Three Keys to Leadership.
