Opportunities to Volunteer with Kids' Clubs
What volunteer position is right for you?

From , former About.com Guide

The sad fact is, more children need and want to participate in clubs than there are clubs. Mainly because adults think they're too busy, or not qualified, to lead. Many existing groups are struggling, as well, because they lack support and volunteers. Kids need adult mentors. They need the clubs, sports and organizations that teach them skills and provide a safe environment for fun.

If you'd like to help out, but aren't sure how, read on for ways you can volunteer with a kids' club.

Lead / Coach an Exisiting Group

Clubs and teams are usually led by a parent of a participant. So what happens when that child grows out of the group or quits? The leader moves on as well. Be available to take over and ensure the club continues.

Assist a Leader

If you aren't ready to step up and take the lead, consider assisting the leader. Be ready and willing to take over wherever needed and you'll be invaluable to the leader.

Start a New Group

If your child isn't finding a group that meets his interests or needs, chances are there are other children looking for the same thing. Go ahead, take the leap, and get one started. Contact the head organization to find out how.

What if you're not up to leading?

There are so many things you can do, as a parent, to help out with a club even if you aren't leading. Take some time to ask the leader what you can do and then follow up and do it! Taking on even one simple task frees up that much of the leader's time to focus on the club activities.

Bring Snacks

Teams need water, fruit and snacks to keep up their energy. Scouts and other organizations often have a snack break. Volunteer to bring snacks.

Chaperone a Field Trip

Any group taking a field trip needs more adult supervision than they have in their regular meeting spot, not to mention cars to get the kids there. Go along for the drive!

Be a "Team Mom" (or Dad)

A team or mom's job will vary depending on what's needed, but may include organizing the weekly snack list, buying thank you gifts for the coaches, or supervising in the dugout or the bench.
