National Future Farmers of America Organization

Focus and Goals:

According to the National FFA Organization Web site, “The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.” This education will help students prepare for careers in any of the various agriculture-related fields.

History:

Future Farmers of America began in Kansas City, MO in 1928. Congress granted the FFA a federal charter in 1950. In 1988, the Future Farmers of America officially changed its name to the National FFA Organization. This change recognizes the variety of fields within agriculture.

Future Farmers of America Motto:

Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.

Age Level:

The National FFA Organization is open to students in grades 7 through 12.

Uniform:

Official dress is to be worn to official FFA functions. Female official dress includes:

  • Black skirt (black slacks may be appropriate in some circumstances)
  • White collared blouse and official FFA blue scarf
  • Black dress shoes and black nylons
  • Official FFA jacket zipped to the top
Male official dress includes:
  • Black dress pants
  • White dress shirt and official FFA tie
  • Black dress shoes and black socks
  • Official FFA jacket zipped to the top
Activities:

The National FFA Organization offers many programs to develop skills and many awards to recognize the achievements of its members. Programs help students develop skills in leadership, managment, agriculture, career development and more. Programs and events are held locally, and around the country, and may include events such as agricultural fairs or member conferences.

Awards:

The National FFA Organization awards recognize accomplishments in a variety of areas including leadership, entrepreneurship, application of scientific principles and new technologies in agriculture, college scholarships and more.
