Little League World Series -- and the Winner is . . .
I turned on the game to see the last out of the 4th inning. The score was tie at 2 all. I got to watch most of the rest of the game, when my husband didn't steal my remote control.
These children played some spectacular ball. Definitely worthy of the World Championship title, on both teams.
As the 5th and 6th innings wore on with no score, I could see the stress building on the young players' faces. Whenever the camera would focus on one of the children, they looked intense and serious. They were playing their best. They knew it, their parents knew it, and the world knew it.
The 2007 Little League World series game slid into extra innings. The 7th came and went, still no score. And the top of the 8th as well.
Then, in the bottom of the 8th, Georgia scored when Dalton Carriker hit a walk off home run. Definitely a hit he'll always remember. Arms up in a victory salute, he ran the bases and crossed home plate. Warner Robins American LL from Warner Robins, Georgia won the 2007 Little League World Series title in a 3 to 2 win.
It was a joy to see the faces of the young men in their yellow shirts celebrating what is probably the best moment of their young lives, something they'll tell their kids and grandkids about.
It was heartbreaking, however, to watch the Japanese boys cry. I hope they realize they played great ball. They can hold their heads high for their awesome accomplishment, as well. One young man from the Georgia team said, "Just seeing them fall down and cry, you just couldn’t let them do that – you gotta pick them up."
My congratulations to both teams on a terrific year of baseball. To all the young boys who played baseball in any league or form all summer long. And especially to the Warner Robins American LL. Way to go, boys!
