Boy Scout Spirit Lives in SE Louisiana

Monday August 13, 2007

Hurricane Katrina devastated the Southeast Louisiana Boy Scout Council as many members were forced from homes and neighborhoods. It didn't take long, however, for that membership to start growing again. The council was up and running 10 days after the storm.

Now, they are up over half of their pre-storm numbers, and still growing.

Perhaps more impressive is the number of boys in the area earning Eagle Scout Awards. The Eagle award is Boy Scouts most prestigious award and is earned, nationally, by about 2% of scouts. In Southeast Louisiana, 4.5% of the boys are earning their Eagle award, more than double the national average.
