My Son Joins Cub Scouts, part 3
My reluctant son was disappointed when he found out his new friends was moving and they wouldn't be in the same den together. His dad and I introduced him to a new den and leader. He was less than thrilled.
It took a couple of meetings, but he settled in. He sold popcorn at a popcorn booth and is taking orders in the neighborhood. He has learned the promise and law. He's been excited about the activities he's done at meetings and has shares them with me when he comes home. He's looking forward to going camping.
Cub Scouts is very family oriented, and I think having mom and dad around for events is helpful to him. When a child is unwilling to separate or needs the added security of having a parent present, finding a club that allows, even encourages, parental involvement can help the child get involved.
If you're having trouble getting your child interested in a club, perhaps being involved with him is a good option. Once you join, give it some time and see how well he adjusts and enjoys!
