My Son Joins Cub Scouts, part 1

Wednesday June 14, 2006

My 6 year old son had been looking forward to joining Cub Scouts. When we gave him a definite date, he suddenly decided he didn't want to join. I tried unsuccessfully to address his concerns.

My husband and I believe that Cub Scouts is a worthwhile program, that he will adjust once he joins, and that he is ready. I told my son that daddy and I decided he needed to try it for a while (I deliberatly didn't define "a while" and he didn't ask) and if he doesn't like it, he didn't need to be a Cub Scout forever.

As a parent, making a decision when your child is objecting, isn't always easy but sometimes it's the best way to get your reluctant child to get involved. I am sure my son will settle in and be fine -- and so will your reluctant child.
